This report details the results of a study conducted as part of the Because I am a Girl: Urban Programme (a joint initiative by WICI, Plan International and UN-HABITAT) to gain a snapshot of adolescent girls' safety and inclusion. WICI at the World Urban ForumAt this year’s World Urban Forum (WUF) in Naples, Italy, Women in Cities International, Plan International and UN-Habitat launched the Because I am a Girl Urban Programme: Safer Cities for Adolescent Girls (BIAAG UP). WICI also participated in UN-Habitat’s Gender Equality Assembly, the “Building Safer cities with and for young people” session and the training event “Safer public space for women”. The launch of the Advisory Group on Gender Issues (AGGI), which is meant to advise the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat on the strategic direction of the agency, also occurred, with WICI board member representing Red Mujer y Habitat de America Latina, Ana Falu, appointed as a member. WICI also co-organized the networking event “Planning gender inclusive cities”. Launch of the Because I am a Girl Urban ProgrammeWomen in Cities International, Plan International and UN-Habitat launched the Because I am a Girl Urban Programme: Safer Cities for Adolescent Girls (BIAAG UP) at the World Urban Forum 6 in Naples, Italy. The goal of this programme is to build safe, accountable, and inclusive cities with and for girls in all their diversity. A key component of the programme will be engaging with girls so that they drive the change process. BIAAG UP will be implemented in five cities around the world: Cairo, Egypt; Delhi, India; Lima, Peru; Hanoi, Vietnam; and Kampala, Uganda.
